The most famous and impressive compound of the Maya Culture is located in the North Central part of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is very easy to tour it, for it can be accessed by air or by land, depending on the City travellers are in.
By air: coming from the neighbouring Cancun in the State of Quintana Roo. There you will find several companies flying air taxis directly to Chichén Itzá. The flight takes approximately one hour. Some firms include the entrance ticket and the transfer service to the archaeological compound.
By land: coming from Mérida, the capital
of the State of Yucatan or from Cancun, in the neighbouring
Quintana Roo. The distance is of 120 and 188 kilometres respectively.
In both places travellers will find bus lines covering the route,
which will stop at Pisté, a town located 1500 metres
away from the Mayan compound. Access in both cases is through
the 180 Federal Highway linking Mérida with Puerto Juarez,
a road in optimum conditions although rather narrow.
